Research Update: PFAS found in several reusable period products - American Chemical Society Building on previously presented research, a team found that period underwear and reusable pads contained PFAS, which might be absorbed into the body through skin contact.

Reusable period products might produce less trash, but according to a new study in ACS’ Environmental Science & Technology Letters, they contain “forever chemicals,” too. However, most tested products contained low levels of PFAS, which suggests they weren’t added intentionally.

The particles are likely the result of degradation of plastic-filled objects such as carpet, textiles and the plastic parts of car interiors.
