Itโs good that Lander is getting arrested and helping people fight ICE. But here, he has actual power.
He should fulfill his promises, which were to take major and specific actions on climate.
He has power. He made specific promises. He should deliver.

Excerpt from Gothamist story that says lander was communicating with Kathy Wylde pre-primary.
Excerpt from Gothamist story that lander โsought to assure Wylde that he would be in a Mamdani administration to address concerns from the business communityโ
These lines in the @gothamist.com @elizabethkim.bsky.social @brigidbergin.bsky.social story exposing @bradlanderโs maneuvers & outing him as cozying up to NYCโs corporate world are important.
They confirm our suspicions why heโs been so resistant to major climate action as @NYCComptroller

Thereโs still October, November and December for him to deliver. He should! For our part, weโre not going to quietly pretend all is fine and dandy when itโs not. Weโre in a low trust society now and politicians like Lander breaking their promises is part of it. WE keep OUR word.

Protesters raise signs directed at Lander during his image-building but empty climate week event. This event and week would have been the obvious moment for him to deliver on his promise, but he has refused to do so. That blew a private promise of a deadline of summer or at the latest September. Thereโs still October, November and December for him to deliver. He should! For our part, weโre not going to quietly pretend all is fine and dandy when itโs not. Weโre in a low trust society now and politicians like Lander breaking their promises is part of it. WE keep OUR word.
Truth is precious and important. Itโs not image-making and misleading people to grease a path.
@bradlander.bsky.social must deliver on his promise of major action on climate.
@nyccomptroller.bsky.social wields power. Use it.

What Most People Get Wrong About Climate Change | SPSP
Itโs not the science people doubtโitโs each other.
New study shows people seriously underestimate the degree to which people understand humans are driving climate change. In reality, 71-88% of people get this. But people โfeelโ itโs much lower. Good News: We are more willing to pitch in when they understand the consensus:

Will Lander leave a legacy as comptroller? What will it be?
Comptroller Landerโs taken many laudable stances on areas he has no control over. Here, he has real power. He can deliver major action, if he wants to. He could leave a legacy.
24.09.2025 15:52 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0
Lander should keep his promises. He should set policies into place that move the cityโs business from dirtier money managers, like BlackRock, to cleaner money managers over time. His term will end soon.
Itโs your call @bradlander.bsky.social: mere words or real deeds.

Weโre not going to let @BradLander run out the clock and mislead people to think he did the deeds, yet it was only words. In climate policy itโs called โgreenwashingโ = not the real thing. In fact, thatโs a lot of #ClimateWeekNYC: BSing. That doesnโt cut it.
24.09.2025 15:52 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0
I know people probably think thatโs common. In my experience, itโs a never event.
Landerโs term isnโt over. He still has the time to act. At this point, though, the promised timeline for action is well past.
24.09.2025 15:52 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0
On a personal level, Iโve been part of highly-charged deals for big policy shifts before. Iโve not yet seen top New York pols who make a serious agreement turn around, undermine and then break it.

When then-Comptroller Stringer made his promise to deliver oil and gas divestment, he delivered. These are world-leading policies. And Stringer has left a major legacy to his tenure as Comptroller.

Currently, some big European public pension funds are acting by shifting their large business from dirtier to cleaner managers. Thatโs BIG! Lander had pledged to act for the NYC funds. So far, nothing.
24.09.2025 15:51 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0
This would mean that NYC would stand up to the right-wing attacks on climate action and push Wall Street to clean up by leveraging its buying power to align its asset managers with climate action to protect both the pension funds and the planet.

2. As important as the private equity policy he committed to set, Lander promised to set policies to move the cityโs business, in a financially-prudent manner, from dirtier to cleaner money managers over time. Thatโs a way bigger move.
24.09.2025 15:50 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0
Lander committed to this policy last year. We stood there and applauded, as he promised to implement itโฆ So far It hasnโt been implemented.
24.09.2025 15:50 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0
Closing off future oil and gas investments through the cityโs private equity holdings, while important, is not a โbig liftโ. It only covers about 10% of the cityโs investments.
24.09.2025 15:50 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0
There are two major areas Lander made very clear, public promises on:
1. Ending private equity investment into oil and gas. The funds already set a divestment policy and implemented it under Stringer. Lander continued it. That covers 90% of their investments.
24.09.2025 15:50 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0
When Lander promised to act on a specific program with clear metrics and timeline for implementation, we stood by him. That was before the primary. We took those specific and clear promises in good faith.

Climate action groups @nychange.bsky.social
@350nyc.bsky.social @pop4climate and others protested Lander on this issue. We lobbied and agitated for action, just as our movement had done years ago to convince the cityโs funds to divest from oil, gas and coal.

Words have power, but deeds matter more. @nyccomptroller @bradlander manages NYCโs huge pension funds. He puts ~$60 BILLION in BlackRock, Wall Streetโs dirtiest money manager. In April, Lander announced heโd clean up NYCโs business. As of now, itโs still just talkโฆ ๐งต
