Today is Transgender Day of Visibility. Trans folk are having to resist relentless attacks by politicians, media, academics, etc who trash them as an “ideology” and seek to censor their lives. We must work harder to end erasure of trans people and make trans visibility, freedom and safety a reality.

Friendship, fitness and freedom: why LGBTQ+ Australians are turning to sports clubs to find ‘queer joy’ A growing number of fitness groups are catering to the queer community, with the opportunity to build genuine connections the biggest drawcard

“CEOs might believe they’re inclusive because they’ve had no complaints, or they might believe it’s a safe environment because there’s a gay man on the board or the women’s team is full of lesbians, but that’s laughable.”

Queensland government halts hormone treatment for new trans patients under 18 Health Minister Tim Nicholls unveiled the pause on Tuesday as he also announced a review into the evidence for stage one and two hormone therapies for children with gender dysphoria.

“It should be a medical discussion and decision between an individual and their doctors — not one made by politicians.”

Politicians must stop weaponising their anxieties to block medical transition. Trans people shouldn’t be denied care because those in positions of power object to their existence.

For as the research highlights we hear these comments so often it becomes normalised and we learn to accept it - that it’s just the norm. We need to break this norm- every LGBTIQA+ person deserves to go to work knowing they will be safe and free of harrassment.

03.12.2024 21:57 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

But like sexist comments and behaviour - we need to show that we don’t accept them and they are harmful and damaging. If you see or hear a LGBTIQA+ person receive these comments - check in on them and ensure they are ok….

03.12.2024 21:57 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

people feel entitled to question, comment, and harass people about these topics because that’s what they assume and think we are- who we have sex with.
Good allyship is calling these comments and behaviour out - or calling in.

Reducing LGBTIQA+ identities to sex and private spaces of the bedroom is wrong - and we don’t do this or speak like this about cisgender or heterosexual people - so people need to stop doing this. This is why I believe there is such a high prevalence….

03.12.2024 21:57 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

For example- many sports clubs/ orgs- when questioned or prompted to reflect on how many LGBTIQA+ people may be in their club, publicly open about their identity- a common response is ‘we don’t need to know what goes on in the bedroom’ or ‘it’s none of our business who people have sex with’.

Thank you to Prof Kerry Robinson Dr Cristyn Davies and the team for leading this important research.

What stands out to me, in comparison to some of my work and research - is reducing LGBTIQA+ identities and relationships to sex and sexualising our communities.

ANROWS report reveals 77% of LGBTQ young people have experienced workplace sexual harassment - ANROWS - Australia's National Research Organisation for Women's Safety Sexual harassment faced by LGBTQ young people in the workplace is widespread and targeted. This is the key finding of new research released today.

Yesterday saw the launch of an important report led by colleagues in Sydney - on the experiences of LGBTIQA+ young people + sexual harrassment. The results are shocking but not surprising -with 77% of LGBTIQA+ young people experiencing workplace sexual harrassment.
