I LOVE me some emotionally manipulative anime: Now and Then, Here and There and Made in Abyss come to mind. But there is so much more going on in both of those shows. This is just droning misery.

I'm reminded of Oscar Wilde's assessment of Dicken's The Old Curiosity Shop: "One must have a heart of stone to read the death of Little Nell without laughing."

Some might get that particular kick out of it.

I saw this like a sort of depressive version of an Aristocrat's Joke- in which the teller is trying his hardest to make an over the top scenario to induce his audience to cry.

I just finished Takopi's Original Sin and thought it was the most contrived bullshit I've ever seen. Throughout these six tedious (though beautifully animated) episodes, I did not feel so much as a pin prick of emotion. I'd compare it to Dancer in the Dark, but at least that had musical numbers.
