Burrowing Owl standing on one leg

Today is International Owl Awareness Day 🦉 (Burrowing Owl)

A small, bright blue bird sits facing the camera with his head turned to the left of the frame and slightly angled down on a piece of vegetation with thin, green leaves. The weight of the bird has sharply bent the stalk so that the tip is pointing toward the ground. He seems unfazed by it. There is another, upright, stalk to his left, and the background is filled with more blurred greens.

You know that 'stomach-dropping' feeling you get when you drive over a hill fast or ride a roller coaster? I wonder if birds feel that when they land on something and it gives much more than they expect.

It was a new experience and one that I hoped would not be repeated.

Common Yarrow (Achillea millefolium); five flat-topped clusters of numerous white florets with yellow centers. This plant is actually growing downward and has a vine-like appearance with the flower clusters facing upwards.
