Been thinking a lot about this WRT the stupid 3 year cycle of AoS because I just updated my Blood Bowl ruleset. There seems to be no good reason to immediately release a new version what looks to be a couple of months after your last round of army books. Let it sit for a bit, y'know?

I've decided I want to sculpt up some Vengorian style blood knights. Kind of some mini Laukas Vais to pad out my army.
It turns out, sculpting is kind of hard.

This line of thinking is a political dead end. Don't worry about how you can't change the mind of a fascist sympathizer, they're in the minority. Worry about educating, organizing, and mobilizing the millions of people who already oppose fascism but don't know what to do about it.

It almost feels like the discussion of arts vs crafts. And I don't know where I draw the line. I've made desks before. Desks that I think are beautiful. But yeah, I agree, they're not art. They're just nice desks. But also, desks can definitely be art.

But what does someone feel from a photo-realistic landscape? It's just a literal example of that thing. The world can inspire awe but is a duplication of that intended to make someone feel? Or is it just, "here's a thing I saw."

What are people supposed to feel about a bowl of fruits?

I don't know, I think you can be an artist in one specific niche, but I often think in similar questions.
Am I being an artist as a mini painter or is it just glorified coloring in?
Often I see art being described as attempting to make someone feel something...

I'm leaving this one as is now. There are parts I like about it, (skin, under lighting) but I think overall the experiment failed. I think next time I need to allow myself to work more with darker shadows than trying to replace them with a bright colour.

If you start the Dungeons and Dragons movie at 11:56pm tonight, you will begin the new year watching a really great movie.

I often work with a limited palette, and this one is no exception. This time, it's Cadmium Yellow, Warm White, Transparent Magenta and Aqua from Jo Sonja. I'm working on building up my layers and seeing what I can put together before I start trying to put in light reflections.

A miniature figure of a woman, floating above some sort of liquid. She has a lot of yellow hair, a magenta cloak reaching down to the water which is painted aqua. All the shadows are aqua creating an almost psychedelic colour scheme that contrasts heavily against the almost white skin.

Because I'm taking a few weeks off from commissions, I'm making a point to spend some time working on longer, personal projects. This one from Ignis Art I'm using to try to do something less literal. I often get bogged down in realism so I'm trying to force myself out of that. #minipainting

Yeah, I really struggle to rewatch Breaking Bad, it's a parade of misery. I'd be interested to see how you go with Better Call Saul which for me is a far superior show.

Playing things too subtle is a common issue for me, my brain fights to adhere to realism whereas artistically, the higher contrast is better. I always try to find ways to push myself further out of my comfort zone to achieve better results. #minipainting
