The thing I mostly remember about reading Frankenstein was that the monster was....quite loquacious.

This novel... gut punch.

I'm quite relaxed. If you carve out 'post science fiction' or anything that is now fully co-opted to the mainstream...then sure you can make an argument the genre is on decline.

Science fiction more widely defined though, I think it is thriving. My tbr isn't getting any shorter.

Really sorry to see the Sidcup Storyteller struggling, it's a great asset to the high street.

It's not just about growth and an efficient economy from one year to the next, there is also something to be said for investment in physical capital and know-how, which I I feel we have traded away too easily for skills in spreadsheets, coding, finance etc.

Have just spent a happy hour in the Kelham Island Museum. Came out more convinced than ever that western industrial policy is failing long term. As an economist my bias is towards free trade and market access, but somewhere in this formula you need to protect your industrial base.
