idk man maybe im just influenced by the fact that i myself have Literally Experienced Psychosis. even when youre no longer psychotic it so severely fucks up your basic cognitive functioning in a way that is impossible to convey. took me years to recover!

sorry to all those for whom social media has poisoned your brain and now you think every single interaction you have with people needs to be a gotcha mic drop moment. been there, done that, it gets fucking exhausting, trust me.

i just hope granger is let go. his act of artistic protest was way more engaging for me than a guy going "here's something that made me go literally insane, and then i kept doing it after the fact, makes ya think!"

the bummer for me is there is a world where the artist creates human-made art for the "post-psychosis" part of the piece and it could be much much more artistically meaningful, not to mention ethical. but his continued use of AI is just... why? especially after it literally made you psychotic????

without looking into what he used, I don't really know if it's theft from other creatives. a lot of artists (sadly) are using their own work to train AI. but the cost of AI is more than just theft, it's also ecological and social, so theft or not is not the issue for me.

i do very much view granger's act as art (and he is a performing arts student, so I'm certain he intended it as artistic protest bc thats the kinda shit they do), and my hope is that dwyer sees it as art too and granger is let go.

and i also, with all due respect, do not know you and have no way of knowing if youre engaging with my post in good faith discussion or if youre just doing the social media thing of firing off a tweet response based off your instant gut reaction to Thing You Just Read.

i dont think ai is art. i think granger's act was more meaningful artistic expression than using ai to create the images. i think dwyer undercut his own intent by continuing use of the tool after it gave him psychosis. i think people need to read articles instead of just reacting to clickbait titles

i think making an exhibit on how AI inflicts psychosis by creating false memories then continuing to use AI even after your psychotic break is defeating the point of your own work, but i also think people making assumptions about the exhibit without actually reading the article is grossly unfair.

i think a lot of people are looking at "AI art in a gallery" and having kneejerk reactions and are clearly and transparently not reading the article though. the AI isn't the means. it's the point. chewing up and spitting out the images, the same way AI does to art, is also in itself art.

i'm curious where the artist now stands on the use of AI in art and in society given he himself suffered from the psychological impact of the false realities of it, but considering he continued to use AI in art after his psychosis, probably still on board. or maybe he wanted to finish his piece.

a lot of people are pointing out that granger's protest is an act of performance art in and of itself, which is true, but the piece is a little more nuanced than just "AI art". the artist suffered from AI psychosis and the artwork is an expression of that.
