I've basically been forced into doing all the stuff I was doing when I was 14 and honestly it's not that bad.

17.02.2026 23:53 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This is totally going to end with a bailout for tech companies because the US government will gladly overpay for a bunch of empty data centers in the middle of nowhere, and convert them into rows of holding cells instead of GPU racks.
16.02.2026 14:28 โ ๐ 14 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Tried to debug why Astro wasn't importing and updating images properly, considered putting everything in /public/ and ignoring good practices. Turns out my browser cached the old images and a shift-refresh fixed it.
14.02.2026 17:54 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Spent an hour trying to fix a text animation not playing on page load, considered changing the entire structure of the project to do view transitions. Turns out I forgot I did a gradient effect that relies on text masking, and the animation put a span around the text which made the box invisible.
14.02.2026 17:54 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Griped about Astro not loading npm modules properly and having to import it in every component. Turns out I wrote the imports into the bottom of the layout component and not the top.
14.02.2026 17:54 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Did a deep dive on ScrollTrigger mechanisms to figure out why the animations would refuse to play. Turns out I lost a bracket somewhere and was writing all the code inside of an unrelated mouseover function.

Spent half an hour tying to debug a forEach function that assigned an "active" class on hover, but never did. Turns out I had accidentally named it ".active" in the if else statement.
there was alot of discourse about the "2-minute meta" in FF14 a couple of years back where the reliance on rigid burst windows was flattening alot of the combat design.
I took a break from that game to play FF16 and laughed when I realized it had the exact same problem.
as we know the best propaganda is the kind you need an expensive VPN to access

also the size of the American cultural footprint means people outside the US can't see it as a monolith and are forced to distinguish between its resident demographics and/or its government, whereas Americans don't really need to do that for other countries.

Legit bummed at the state of things, the next mainline game might be 3-4 years away and the state of the studio is declining so rapidly.
With any luck these guys will also learn about personal consequences the hard way.

08.02.2026 17:06 โ ๐ 14 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0One thing I want to add to the "everyone can make art" discourse is that professionalizing your hobbies might be worse than just dealing with a shitty job. YMMV but there's alot of survivorship bias on one end and a bit of vicarious yearning on the other.
