Screenshot of Bikemap show route statistics by road type for a route in distance and percentage.
Bikemap has added some neat features recently. Hereβs from my normal route to work, most of which is on a mixed use path and then some neighborhood roads. They also have a heatmap touting option similar to Strava.

I like Bikemap for their routing options to weigh preferences for speed/directness versus comfort. Otherwise, I like the Strava heatmap to see what routes others take. Not the end all, but useful for identifying popular routes.

Went on a jog this morning after last nightβs snow. It was amazing how quiet it was and how slow cars had to drive. If only our cities could be designed to make this the default.

The good news is a 3.5 miles stretch of the bike path in the first photo is scheduled to have concrete curbs added this summer. Fingers crossed that ends up happening!

Point of view of a bike on a busy four-lane road with a median and painted bike lane on the right. A red car with flashers on is parked in the bike lane.
Point of view of a bike on a multi-use path in a quiet area with bare trees all around.
The dichotomy of a bike commute with good (?) bike infrastructure by US standards.

Person wearing glasses, a helmet, headband ear warmer, and a fleece neck warmer covering their face, riding a bike outdoors in a winter setting.
A multi-use trail surrounded by bare trees and a clear sky with early morning sun.
Finally figured out neck and ear covers are essential for cold-weather bike commuting. Really enjoying the brisk air this time of year.

I have a pair of waterproof jeans from Duer. They look like regular black denim, which I appreciate.

Better use than the average pickup gets in a year.

Totally agree with this, but I also think thereβs a lack of acknowledgement of the contribution of terrible road design to how easy/encouraged terrible driving behaviors are. Better design could make it a lot harder to be reckless.
