Two Grant biographers have behaved poorly in my presence: Perret and Chernow. BTW, McFeely and I had a much more positive relationship. He was a worthy adversary. :)

The show should have been based on Grant's life. Given how derivative much of Chernow's book is, it conceals much if it's seen to be his project.

Big names were involved in the American Experience program in Grant. All appeared.

And the politics are internal to the production. Fox shows have always treated me well. Only clash was when they tried to say that as a news channel, they did not compensate "sources."

You just have to remember ... it's their story. You are used to validate it. You say the obvious and they make it seem profound.
