07.12.2025 04:31 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This weekβs Money Stuff podcast ends suspiciously abruptly, with an edit cutting off a heavy

Regarding the Claude βSoul Documentβ: I wonder if training models on documents like these influences our perception of these models as sentient.
In many ways, LLMs are playback machines, which we talk to as human. It reminds me of facilitated communication. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facilit...
Me neither. But the Master Switch future seems inevitable with Google and Apple owning user persistence, age verification, and payments.
01.12.2025 17:28 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm torn β the platforms owning ad ID opt-in nuked ad revenue for anyone whose audience wasn't already very large and established. True, it offloads the headache for pubs, but further consolidates their defacto ownership of the user.
01.12.2025 16:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's worth reading both Nuzzi's & Lizza's recent writing, not because of its subjects, but because it effectively conveys the invisible, essential work of great editors.
As someone who is _not_ a professional writer, but writes in public a lot, it is incredibly validating to see these ROUGH drafts.
I wonder how long it can last when they ask the artists to do their own marketing now and streaming takes care of the distribution.
Which, of course, is why they've built monopolies around concert venues.
Yes, it's a straight line through bad contract innovations in the 60's, through to iTunes, Spotify, and now. Anything that reduces their costs and increases their revenue (how much doesn't really matter) will be embraced. Artists are an afterthought.
26.11.2025 17:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Here's a fun OSM task you can do: add the location of Flock cameras. One mapper in our neighborhood has been on a roll: www.openstreetmap.org/node/1333152...
25.11.2025 19:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0When only 10% of the world was online (and only 1% actively used it) it felt like a small, vibrant club.
I find myself trying to discern when things are *actually worse*, it's just different and I'm older now, or it's better because its more accessible to most people.
This community is no longer the focus:
Pressure for growth means the big platforms have to find new sources of revenue, which aren't the ones people originally came to them for.
The audience early users were part of used to be a giant share of the web. It is now a drop in the bucket.
This is the 2nd verse of Hey Nineteen.
13.11.2025 23:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I gave a talk about Overture's GERS (an open, free, maintained ID system for geo data) at CARTO's Spatial Data Science Conference.

When a new use case arrives (chat, deep research, browsers), AI companies school like fish towards it. Blue oceans turn red in a year or so.
What can we learn from this pattern?
