The OpenAI employee share sale at the BS $500bn number is now up to $10.3 billion. This is a cashout. This is the thing you do when you do not see a future for the company.

Media outlets seem to have soured on the AI hype machine.

The people saying, "Well, it's losing money now to act as infrastructure later" I think are really confused about how intellectual property works.

The disappointing release of ChatGPT-5 is really underscoring to a lot of people that this technology isn't good enough to be economically sustainable direct from providers (OpenAI), or feasible as a tool/software layer underneath other products (which is even more expensive).

Western University is offering new scholarships of up to 40k CAD for four years to doctoral students who are studying at, have an offer from, or have had an offer rescinded from one of the top 100 American universities.

you need to get to graduate school before you can start producing essays that your professors couldn't write themselves -- that's the *point* of education, you're being worked through centuries of thinking to be able to add to it

As attention spans get shorter, so does the SAT -- and soon the ACT The SAT, and soon the ACT, are changing to cater to students with short attention spans.

We would see SAT/ACT prediction of the criterion of college academic performance become poorer. However #HigherEd is also eliminating the requirement to read long passages. The erosion of intellectual skills will be empirically imperceptible to us.
