08.12.2025 00:09 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Correct, I wasn't calling names. I was using it as a generality as in "you don't" standing in for "one doesn't."
There's plenty of films I wish I could see in theaters but circumstance doesn't allow to see them all, so I have to wait to watch at home. I have to be patient about that too.
All of it is connected Dan, it's an ouroboros. If you can't see that cutting staff then leads to less screenings which leads to streamers saying "why bother investing in theatrical at all" then I don't know what to tell you.

When studios shrank the window in 2021, I was specifically told it was a big part of why I was laid off in 2022 alongside ~30% of staff. People's lives and livelihoods will be affected. All I ask is just to keep these examples in mind.
Wow, @danryckert.com 3.0 really is different.

06.12.2025 05:29 β π 209 π 36 π¬ 17 π 13Your preference of staying home to watch movies is totally fine, that's your prerogative, but that doesn't make shortening the *already recently shortened* theatrical window consumer friendly.
It just allows you to not worry about being impatient if there's something you want to watch.
So now they have one option: stand in long lines, which is physically taxing, AND spend more money. So there goes the elderly market.
Then there's the family of 4, which is already paying around $100 for tickets and concessions, they'll have to pay *even more* for a night at Zootopia 2.
It's important to remember that tons of people don't sub to streamers and/or only budget out 1 or 2 movies a month.
For instance, my older clientele wasn't attending opening weekends, they'd see things much later so they didn't have to exhaust themselves standing in long lines.
Long response: As someone intimately knowledgeable about cinema pricing, less chance for tickets to be sold raises prices on both tickets & concessions, plus Netflix's "added value" is an excuse to raise prices yet again.
That's shareholder friendly, which hurts both the consumer & wider industry.
Oh I'm just saying this combo breaks the game in a way that makes it very easy comparatively to any other combo not that it's my favorite necessarily haha
