An international team led by ZMT analysed 335 genomes of Caribbean hamlet fishes. Only one gene showed a clear link to differences between species. It's active in skin, eyes, and brain & may be tied to colour patterns and mate choice.

#LIBresearch reveals that the ancient Nautilus uses a ZZ/Z0 system: males have two Z chromosomes (ZZ), females only one Z (Z0). They also found 36 genes linked to male reproduction, giving a peek into how these โ€œliving fossilsโ€ pass on their traits. ๐Ÿ”ฌ

#LIBresearch finds African cichlids often lack fixed sex chromosomesโ€”many use homomorphic, sometimes polygenic systems. Linkage group 3 (LG3), a chromosome, often carries sex-linked genes, but new sex-linked regions also arise across lineages.
