Since 2009, OTN has been working in the Minas Passage, Bay of Fundy. It's home to the world's highest tides, so some gear loss is expected. This year, our team hit a milestone: all 12 receiver stations were successfully recovered for the first time, thanks to improved mooring design. 🌊🎉

🌊 Calling all aquatic animal movement researchers! We’re excited to share opportunities at the @worldbioforum.bsky.social in Davos, June 14–19, 2026. Join the global community advancing biodiversity research! (1/3)

The array will help researchers track a wide range of species: cod, halibut, herring, salmon, tuna, swordfish, white sharks & sea turtles. Data from this array will advance understanding of one of Atlantic Canada’s most ecologically significant regions. 🙌

This work is in the Fundian Channel–Browns Bank AOI, a potential future marine protected area and biodiversity hotspot. It hosts the densest known concentration of large gorgonian corals (a type of soft coral) in Atlantic Canada and forms the Gulf of Maine’s largest entrance.

The 18-station array is spaced ~10 km apart in a grid and took ~12 hours to deploy, starting at 5:30 a.m., hence the early-morning photos in the dark! This infrastructure will track species movements across the Scotian Shelf bioregion.

🌊 New acoustic array deployed in the Fundian Channel! This fall, our telemetry team worked offshore south of Yarmouth, NS, installing 18 acoustic receivers to monitor aquatic species in this ecologically rich region.

A few snaps from a late-August receiver maintenance trip in the Musquash MPA! 🔧🌊 We’ve been deploying and maintaining acoustic receivers here with Fisheries and Oceans Canada since 2018 to help track migratory and resident species, as well as build a long-term dataset supporting MPA management.

Last month, OTN’s data team hosted our International Data Management Committee (IDMC) for their annual in-person meeting! The IDMC provides guidance on data processes and policies, helping us stay aligned with internationally recognized standards. Thank you for your partnership and support!
