New study of the lab showing that sleep preserve sound representations geometry in the auditory cortex but intermittently blocks the transfer of sensory information, possibly to provide both opportunities for surveillance and offline processing.

A nice new study of the lab showing that the auditory maintains a much more detailed short-term memory of the sound in the offset responses than subcortical regions of the auditory system. Next step would be to understand what are the neural dynamics underlying this.

A putative neural correlate of mood!

One big (scandalous?) idea, simple analyses, and the STRONGEST brain/behavior correlation I've EVER seen (which is shocking, given that it's mood).

Feature-dependent decorrelation of sound representations across the auditory pathway Early studies on orientation selectivity in the visual cortex have suggested that sensory systems generate new feature representations at specific processing stages. Many observations challenge this v...

New preprint with systematic measurements of feature tuning in the mouse auditory system made with robust representation similarity analysis. Validates a range of earlier observations and generalizes beyond that.

Well I agree we made a wrong business plan on that one. Fees are there to make sure that people register and come. They just cover the buses and the food in fact.

Elife has a new editor-in-chief. An opportunity to remember that Elife proposes a modern peer review system fostering transparency, fairness, and immediacy. Elife has contributed to move the entire system in these important directions, and hopefully will continue doing so.

A spatial code for temporal information is necessary for efficient sensory learning The auditory system transforms temporal information in sounds into spatial information for rapid associations with decisions.

A milestone paper for the lab. First causal demonstration of the impact of temporal information format on learning & a clear demonstration that the mouse auditory system structures sound representations very similar to what sound categorization deep networks do. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
