This is true: Starmer was going to go, regardless. But as usual the political journalists are doing everything in their power to obscure the politics of the situation by focussing relentlessly on tragic flaws, surprise resignations, dramatic interventions, all of SW1's moth-eaten stagecraft.

Why is Keir Starmer so unpopular? Britain needs a leader willing to break with the legacy of Thatcherism

They want you to believe Starmer's going because of Mandelson. He isn't. He's been on the way out since summer because the polls are disastrous because half the Labour base have gone to the Greens for entirely political reasons. This is why Starmer will go: www.newstatesman.com/politics/uk-...

Found this episode (about Britain) more helpful than anything so far to think abt this wave of nationalism in Canada and the contradictions/possibilities/inevitabilities of a left nationalism.

where can I get my 3+ hours of listening on the waffle??

For no reason at all, here's the short blog version of the article that Alex and I wrote about Matthew Goodwin's book (and why his core analytical assumptions are worrying close to those of much mainstream centre-left political science) politicalquarterly.org.uk/blog/the-vic....

Great interview with @jemgilbert.bsky.social for those less academically immersed, skip to where it talks about solidarity (although I really enjoyed the engagement with Derrida). For me a good summation of where we are & pointer to how we begin to turn things: olrsupplement.com/2026/01/06/t...

The Good Fight: What Does Labor Stand For? In this subtle and brilliant essay, Kelly explores whether Labor is still up for the good fight.

If you want to catch up on the state of the Australian Labor party, this essay shows it's almost a mirror image of the Starmer Labour Party. (Extract only, don't have full essay, sorry)
