Did mine at the weekend, got the bill confirmed today 😬. I had been expecting it so am prepared with the money put aside, but even so seeing the number on the screen is still a bit EEEK!

As someone that attended an all boys grammar school in the 1980s, I don't recall anyone being obsessed with Hitler.

My friend group then was basically my lunchtime D&D group so we tended to talk about orcs and gnolls rather than nazis.

I loved it too, and an interesting contrast with The Sea Devils on BBC4 immediately before which shows how far TV production has changed in ~50 years.

On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me, a partridge in a pear tree. Ate it.

Thank you for mentioning this so I knew to listen. I spend a lot of time (and money!) in the Piccadilly store when I visit London, and it has always been a dream to run an little indie bookstore, so it was fascinating and good to hear him so positive about the future of retail bookselling.

Today's haul from Max Minerva's Marvellous Books near work in Bristol. Nice to find The Vengance by @emmanewman.bsky.social in an indie bookshop. I bought Notes on Infinity based on seeing it in the window so who knows what it will be like!

It was certainly painful to listen to, but unfortunately it feels like many political interviews are the same - journo trying to get a politician to say a specific thing, politician saying other things but not THE thing, and it just goes round and round, ever since Michael Howard on Newsnight.

TW: This is about abortion -but more than that it’s about how debate when shock tactics are on rise. If they are getting to our young people, we can’t pretend abortion access isn’t under attack but shouting back isn’t the way forward either. This will get worse until we stand up for light not heat.

The courts have chosen to interpret "creation" to include creating a copy by downloading. It means a person with a printed copy is charged with a less serious offence than one with a digital copy, and without attending the trial the public can't know what "creation" meant in each case.

Have to admit I wouldn't consider being responsible for 30 teenagers in a foreign country "a jolly". Sounds more like a punishment to me.

I'd love to see it return. We get sports news every single day in a dedicated spot on every bulletin, a show of science, technology and engineering innovation once a week isn't a big ask.

The exhibition was put on at short notice as a thank you to the people of Bristol and beyond for contributing to the recent crowdfunded attempt to buy a Turner oil painting of Bristol for the museum at auction. It's over a decade since the watercolours have been shown (for conservation reasons).
