It's not even about how trans people will vote, it's about the labor of local organizing, which needs sincere belief.

Trans people should be the fiery backbone of every local Democratic organizing wing, instead they're getting shit on to court people so apathetic they're on the fence about fascism.

That can't be right.

Instead I'm hearing the politically pragmatic thing is to ... hand them over to the fascists on a silver platter, in pursuit of a demographic of voters which didn't

Hell even if you wanted to be a cold-blooded politician about it and set aside the moral dimension, this is just stupid politics. Oh yeah, let's take one of the most politically activated and progressive demographics in the US that's facing annihilation and toss them out with the bathwater. Smart.

No he's also a racial segregationist, he oversaw number of housing policies which were pretty brutally racist against black communities.

Let me flip this pragmatic script on you. Why should we have a nominee who shits all over the organizing potential of a highly politically charged and almost entirely progressive demographic with maximal skin in the game? That feels like putting ideology before political pragmatism.

Hey so if you take a look at history rather than just that poem, you might notice that the first book burnings were actually targeted at trans people. I wonder if there's any lessons in the poem we could apply to that.

Wow voice to text messed that one up. Should have been "My heart just wasn't in it"

But that's the thing about centrist political pragmatism. For some reason it's only ever pragmatic to move to the right, never to the left.

08.08.2025 10:52 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Because what political practicality would really look like would be embracing the incredible enthusiasm there is to be found in the self-preservation of a politically charged demographic facing annihilation.

08.08.2025 10:52 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

And when the Democratic party shits all over trans people, the political discussion often gets framed in terms of morality on one side and foolishly non-pragmatic progressives refusing to vote on the other side. But the idiot ideologues who refuse to be politically practical are the centrists!

I think most trans people in the US are pragmatic enough to know they're better off voting for Democrats, even as the Democratic party throws them under the bus. But the capacity for pragmatic voting and the enthusiasm needed to do on the ground volunteer work are just different things.

I went from being a darn good canvasser to poor enough performance that I got let go, when I realized the purpose of the money we were collecting was openly to be bribe money for our local politicians. This book is my heart wasn't in it anymore, and I couldn't bring myself to be enthusiastic.

foundational backbone of all local Democratic organizing.

But I've been a door to door political canvasser before and I can tell you that it takes a sincere belief in your cause to do effectively. There are people who can fake it, but most random volunteers can't, it's just too exhausting.

08.08.2025 10:52 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

But what I think that conversation can miss is the opportunity cost. Trans people are an incredibly politically charged and overwhelmingly progressive demographic with enormous amounts of skin in the game, because it's not a fucking game to trans people!

In a sane world trans people would be the

The Democratic party would have 100,000 committed volunteers knocking on doors within a month!

We put a lot of focus on the moral bankruptcy and ineffectiveness of Democrats trying to throw trans people to the wolves to peel off a few fascist voters, and we should. It is evil and ineffective.

08.08.2025 10:52 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Can you imagine if the Democratic party pulled its head out of its ass, whipped the party line to be supporting trans people, and then set aside funds and some logistics admins for a program called "Trans People Against Fascism", to support any trans person who wants to get organizing?

08.08.2025 10:52 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It's like that quote, "It was worse than a crime, it was a mistake".

The sheer hypocrisy is astonishing. In one breath these people will tell you that we lost the election because left-wing voters cared too much about genocide of Palestinians and trans rights, and in the next tell you that politicians should care less about those issues.

The Democrats' problem: The people with the most skin in politics, who would normally be the enthusiastic left wing vanguard, are being betrayed so hard that motivation lags even in the face of fascism.

Your solution: Maybe we could earn some fascist votes by betraying them even harder?

FDA Layoffs Could Compromise Safety of Medications Made at Foreign Factories, Inspectors Say Beyond staff cuts, the departures of some longtime investigators in recent months have left less experienced people tasked with rooting out dangerous manufacturing practices.

With deep job cuts at the FDA, inspectors say the ongoing strain could compromise policing an industry spread across more than 90 countries.

β€œThings will be missed, we are going to have a lot less safe drugs,” a former inspector said.

In January, I spent a few days in federal court for the trial of neo-Nazi Brandon Russell, who was convicted of conspiring to damage an energy facility.

It provided a glimpse into how the government dismantled a loose, international neo-Nazi network.

If there's any one element responsible for that, other than the fact that most of these people get emotional and practical benefits from bigotry, it's that their beliefs are so reprehensible that repudiating those beliefs would be immensely morally painful.

There's plenty of skepticism about prioritizing that as a political strategy, or the likelihood of it happening with any given individual. But I just don't see people actually screaming about the irredeemability of bigoted voters to such a degree that it's a defining factor in them not coming around

Honestly, I see people chiding the concept of that far far more than I actually see it.

Mostly I just see people accurately describing the motivations or ideology of MAGA. Sometimes heatedly, which it deserves. But very few people are opposed to the concept of redemption or turning a new leaf.
