This is why I don't think we should be too concerned with a coverup of the Epstein files. This administration is too incompetent to pull it off.

Ken Burns’ documentary did mention Washington’s decision to inoculate the troops, but it missed a tremendous opportunity to talk about how inoculation, and public health generally, was being discussed as both a duty of government and a right of the people. It wasn’t just a smart tactical move.

Ken Burns is definitely prepping us for Benedict Arnold’s traitor turn. He might have also mentioned that Arnold called for inoculating soldiers more than a year before Washington did and had his order rejected by General John Thomas (who died of smallpox).

I read Sartre's Antisemite and Jew (Réflexions sur la question juive) shortly after graduating high school. I had had some painful experiences with antisemitism and I was really struck by the argument that antisemites construct these imaginary tropes to support an entire discourse & worldview.

But then why focus on the ACA subsidies if you knew you were going to lose? Why choose that message when millions of people were out in the street for #NoKings? Wouldn't it have made more sense to demand the unmasking of ICE or for Congress to reassert the War Powers Act? It doesn't add up. /2

Defenders of the shutdown deal say that Republicans were never going to agree to extend expanded ACA subsidies and that the goal of the shutdown was to put a spotlight on this issue and make them pay a political price. Those goals were met. /1

We have lots of student notebooks containing sketches on anatomy, diseases etc, however, this one is by far our favourite. It shows Joseph Lister, father of antiseptic surgery, disappearing through a trapdoor after his lecture in Glasgow in 1868. Now that's how to make an exit!
