A reminder that Oxfordshire has also very successfully rolled out 20mph in a rural county with exceptionally limited political pushback. I really don't think this is talked about enough. Are your Cllrs refusing 20mph cos "Our LA isn't London"? Tell them about Oxfordshire! Happy to share policy docs.

Great read from @adamtranter.bsky.social ‡️

Technology should not be introduced at the expense of pedestrian freedom to use the highway safely and conveniently. We need to make sure that the most vulnerable road users are protected and prioritised so that our streets work for all.

Rachel Reeves is right that the world has changed - so why won’t she change her strategy to reflect it? Rigid adherence to arbitrary fiscal rules & refusing wealth taxes is a political choice that’s causing huge pain & harm, as well as laying out the welcome mat for the populists at Reform UK

Wales’s 20mph speed limit has cut road deaths. Why is there still even a debate? Research suggests the scheme may be more popular than thought, with consultations dominated by a loud minority

The switch to 20mph roads in Wales meant:

🟒 100 fewer dead or seriously injured
🟒 26% fewer injured
🟒 The lowest 3 month casualty figure since records began 46 years ago

That's in just the first year. Real lives saved, real families spared a lifetime of pain and hardship.

Lorna Slater: The policies to fix broken UK society are staring us in the face Billionaires shouldn’t exist. Every one is a policy failure and with 165 in the UK, we can see exactly how our economy is failing.

Healthy societies can’t afford billionaires. Every single one is a policy failure.

'Trickle down' economics has never worked. It's nothing more than a way for the rich to hoard ever more wealth while everyone else struggles to get by.

There is a better way. πŸ‘‡

The major question thrown up by Labour's benefits plans The debate has sparked a wider dilemma about the broader purpose of welfare

Who does this Labour government represent?

They have a big majority with only 33.7% of the vote (and turnout was only 59.8%)

How many people who voted for them did so they could cut disability benefits?

Tax the rich, don't punish those in need of support

20mph in Wales meant about 100 fewer people killed or seriously injured in a year.

Next week the Labour (yes, Labour) Government are expected to announce even deeper cuts to public services than first thought.

Labour cuts, Tory cuts, it's always the rest of us who pay the price.

The Green Party would tax the rich properly to help close the inequality gap.

This is how our government has been corrupted:Β

1) Donors give huge sums to elect politicians to office.Β
2) Elected officials rewrite the rules in the donors' favor.Β
3) Donors make a huge profit.Β
4) Repeat.

For the sake of democracy, we must get Big Money out of politics.
