Idc, "4 people disguised as construction workers heisted the Napoleon family jewels from the Louvre in 7 minutes by rolling up to the second-storey window on a basket lift" is an objectively hilarious event

There’s a free application, shutup10++, that lets you disable all the shitty windows stuff with a series of checkboxes.
It even tracks if windows rolls anything back between updates and lets you reverse the changes with a click.
I can personally recommend shutup10++ if you need to stick with windows

I thought this was widely known? Tron movies are mostly spectacle (I've only seen the first 2.) Are people watching them for the plot?

Someone's screenshot of a two-post twitter thread, from user blue (@bluewmist):

the fastest way to kill motivation is to make your identity depend on the outcome. it's called ego involvement. when failing becomes failing as a person, your brain starts avoiding the whole thing. not because you don't care, but because you care too much.

you don't need lower standards. you need less self-worth tangled up in your goals. the work gets easier when it's not about proving who you are.

Found this on the AO3 subreddit, and I'm about to let it change my whole life (or at least work really hard to internalize it wrt my writing).

A digital dark age? The people rescuing forgotten knowledge trapped on old floppy disks From lectures by Stephen Hawking to the letters of British politician Neil Kinnock – it's a race against time to save the historical treasures locked away on old floppy disks.

So this #SHOT2025 panel has nearly wrapped up. But if you want to read more about historical issues surrounding multimedia and the preservation of born-digital collections, check out this piece on #DigiPres at @theul.bsky.social.

he also said that 80% of antifa's members are landlords and if you lower the cost of housing, you basically starve the network of its financing

so funny to think that jack, despite also being a tech shithead and moron, likely extended the popularity of his website for years because his class of tech shithead is "go on ayahusca trips that tell you the blockchain is good" instead of "namesearch yourself and get mad at your user's posts"

Like I don’t know how you simultaneously undercut your argument for being a meaningfully decentralized platform while *also* doing a racism while *also* doing a transphobia while *also* proving to everyone you’re too petty and involved in forum drama to hold your position but Graber pulled it off

This is extra funny because the BS team is like "the tech is the product not the users" and it's like OK, cool but that doesn't seem to work as you sold it either

They say that making "roguelikes" makes things easier for developers.

But Rogue devs wanted a game that was exciting every time you played it. That is definitely HARDER than making a game that is exciting once.

Procgen games take ages to mature. Otherwise they feel repetitive.

For example:

The development of Caves of Qud started in 2008 and it was released in 2024.

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup still gets updates, and the original Linley's Dungeon Crawl was released in 1995.

No Man's Sky was negatively received at release due to the lack of content, but then it got better with updates.

Path of Exile is said to be better in the after-game than early in the campaign. Because early campaign was designed early.

The Binding of Isaac, Minecraft, and Terraria also still get updates and more content.

(Of course easier to do some lazy randomness and market that as procgen/roguelike.)
