Keeps me out of trouble!

New Mexico Trip 2025 Bosque del Apache, White Sands, the VLA near Magdalena and possibly a couple from Bernardo, while traveling with my friend from CA, Larry Summers.

I recently enjoyed a 4-day trip to New Mexico. Birding targets included Bosque del Apache and Bernardo. We also hit White Sands and the VLA, and drove across the Carrizozo lava field. I'll fill in some details about certain images later, but for now, I'm done with editing!

Old Car City Last field trip of the year, we had a great turnout from my 2 camera clubs. Some of the Halloween decorations OCC had put up were still in place, too.

The cellphone did great, but this is from the real camera. Having missed the first night, our Kp got above 8 around 10pm, and we saw it on our screens. I've removed some annoying lights from the far shore, but the color is real - to cameras, anyway; I saw none of this live! 10 sec shot, Nikon Z8.

Beautiful night with Mary and friends at Carter's Lake, all of us out there shivering for a chance to get the aurora. Never saw it - much less the reflection! - but cameras did. This is a cellphone shot, tripod mounted S24+, "night mode" (LE - 10 seconds).

Overnight trip to Banks Lake with my friend Cory, hoping for fall colors in the swamp cypress. We got the color, but also a lot of wind, a very cold morning and so-so light - but as a scouting mission for a future club field trip, it worked out just fine. Cool place.
