All hail Novavax. I got my covid booster yesterday and I feel a little under the weather like I just got a flu shot rather than the 24-48 hour fever I would get with Moderna.
I got my Novavax shot at a CVS in LA.
So private prisons need to imprison someone or their precious profits will decline. Enter ICE
28.09.2025 05:10 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0I can't even imagine.
Like I know I'm Brown but when I've visited Texas (Dallas, Austin, San Antonio), I become a LOT more aware all the time that I am Brown. And that's just in the cities, can't even imagine the atmosphere in the small cities or the small towns.
Look I've got little love for the LAPD but the sheriff's are worse and they largely patrol smaller enclaves.
And the Sheriff's actually have less cops than LAPD!
Nicer cities like Beverly Hills and Pasadena have their own cops that are not LASD.
So smaller isn't necessarily worse.
Ya I should have specified in the before times and the Trump times.
28.09.2025 04:22 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It honestly feels like a distant dream when I think about when I was young & dated guys who afforded their own apartment or lived in a large house with roommates just working minimum wage or odd jobs.
That never happens anymore. Those type of young guys just live with their parents.
But it's a free society and you're welcome to not put it if you feel it's a risk.
Race is just obvious in many names like mine anyway.
The problem with this approach is that if minorities do not put their race then there's less data that a certain university or employer is discriminating against them.
Believe me Trump would absolutely love it if all minorities refused to report race and then he could report no racism!
Also we need to bring back public housing and welfare!
You don't like women staying with their abusers? Really? Well you gotta make it so low income & disabled women can have their own apartments.
Don't like family abuse? Well then make it so an 18 year old can have their own apartment.
I didn't make the world but I am committed to doing my best to getting people to listen and this starts with meeting them where they're at.
Believe me I would much rather just throw facts at each other but my life experience has taught me that does not go far.
I discovered in recent years that I am autistic. I'm bringing this up because I have discovered that neurotypicals are a lot more emotionally motivated.
You can throw all the facts you want at them but psychologically you're going to get them be more likely to listen if you start with low crime.
Like I've had situations where I would have let a friend sleep on my couch for a few weeks had I lived alone or with a partner but where that was impractical living with roommates.
28.09.2025 04:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0People being able to have an extra bedroom or a 1 bedroom instead of a studio enables then to let a friend stay on their couch for a few weeks while they get on their feet.
Part of the reason homelessness has increased is we just have less space to temporarily help out our friends.
If you want people to be able to quickly and easily leave abusive situations, housing has to be relatively cheap.
Like people should be able to work part time and afford to live with roommates.
People working minimum wage or on disability should be able to easily afford a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment.
The housing crisis keeps people stuck longer than necessary in 1) bad relationships 2) with bad roommates 3) living in unhealthy situations with their family.
28.09.2025 03:57 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I know the US has long had higher incarceration rates than other developed countries for various structural reasons.
But I also believe that informing people that crime is at a 50 year low encourages them to accept criminal justice reforms and to prioritize funding for other things.
Last year I encouraged my friends to vote no on state proposition to increase certain crime penalties from misdemeanors to felonies.
The 2 main points I made are 1) Crime is at a 50 year low despite what randos say!!! And 2) That it is MUCH MUCH more expensive to put people in prison vs jail.
Well I prefaced it with trend for a reason.
I understand where you're coming from but people who aren't specialists like you are largely ignorant that there has been a massive decline in both serious crime and in incarceration.
This is important when president says he's occupying cities bc crime.
I mean, are you seriously going to write that βexperts disagreeβ about whether or not thereβs a war in Portland?
βThe president should be removed from office because he is plainly insane.β
4) We can't specialize in everything.
I've had a great time hanging out with CalTech students who were scientists & engineers and also hanging out with philosophy grad students.
Neither subject is my wheelhouse. Vice versa people from other disciplines have enjoyed talking to me.
It's no coincidence that they banned abortion during an era of low fertility rates and higher inflation than there was for decades.
28.09.2025 03:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The end of welfare in the US did more to discipline labor compared to the police state IMO.
A Marxist explanation for mass incarceration was to deal with the reserve army of labor.
But now we're decades into below replacement rate fertility... Different problems, different coercive attempts.
