Dot Com Press Publishing for the internet age.

ICANN is not a boring bureaucracy: internet governance drama buried in acronyms

Writing about ICANN reminded me of my favorite David Foster Wallace essay, Authority and American Usage ("Did you know that US lexicography even *had* a seamy underbelly?")

I put together a timeline of domain history from DNS to 2026 gTLDs. Inspired by @deno.land's Brief History of JS and @neal.fun's Internet Artifacts (which is amazing if you haven't read through it before!)

Rare usernames "may be priced anywhere from $2,500 to over seven figures, depending on demand and uniqueness" and "if you ever downgrade your X subscription, your account will revert back to your original username, and you’ll lose access to the one you snagged through the marketplace."

X is launching a marketplace for inactive handles X is launching a Handle Marketplace where Premium subscribers will be able to search and request usernames that have been unavailable.

@terrenceobrien.bsky.social's article on Twitter's secondary marketplace for handles reminds me of the secondary market for domain names, including the perpetual renewal cost

worth a thousand words! I think the rendering engines and js engines would be siblings instead of parent child? e.g. V8 under Blink but not nested maybe

What should I know about JavaScript engines and runtimes? Pete Millspaugh's digital garden

I went down an adjacent rabbit hole recently wondering about the differences between js runtimes versus js engines versus js the language

"Is it JavaScript?" would be a good name for the quiz section of justjavascript.com

I like the conclusion you settle on, that something is just javascript if it follows ECMAScript (and therefore runs anywhere js runs)
