Knowing how long the medieval manuscripts took, its somewhat fascinating to me that a digital scriptorium couldn't make it work in the late 90s.

The monastery is still around (it's about two hours from where I live), but Wikipedia says "the web scriptorium closed down in 1998 when it became apparent that their work as web designers distracted from their vocations as monks."

Only today, in the Year of Our Lord 2025, am I learning about scriptorium@christdesert, a web design service run by a group of Benedictine monks in remote New Mexico in the 1990s.
