oh and if you haven't deleted the original one (with just _atproto) there is not really a downside to keeping it there and might be some very slight upside

you're welcome! DNS is always always always annoying like that, but it's a great handle

you may need to end the katewagner with a ., but that's pretty finicky on their end if so

wherever you are setting your _atproto. value, set it to _atproto.kate. or whatever

lol and by contrast the replies here are "real," but not much of an advertisement for the concept

I was on some level prepared for the rightwing delusion that biden was president in 2020, but I admit i'm surprised at the parallel consensus that zohran is currently the mayor

lol laziness is exactly the issue, i've never gotten myself to consistently update any concert tracker except this. movies and books are comparatively so easy!

that was part of what sealed the deal for me, because the answer is: a google sheet that i manually add rows to. and so I had to write a little "parser" on the receiving end, whereas for the other ones i just used an RSS library

and in a way, an API that's a very open standard can be the basis for much more generative development. the podcast ecosystem could not have emerged from a single site's API

i love blogs and RSS, and advocate for them often, and i sometimes run into developers that are mystified by the technology. but it's really just an advertised endpoint that returns content in a mediocre, mostly-standardized XML package!

List of recently watched movies, recently read books, and recently attended concerts

List of recently watched movies, recently read books, and recently attended concerts

building this little section of my personal site really drove that home for me. 10 years ago the data sources (mainstream social cataloging sites) would've had APIs, and now just have RSS, but... it gets the job done, more or less

29.07.2025 17:47 β€” πŸ‘ 8    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

an RSS feed is just a (usually) low-overhead (usually) no-auth API endpoint for content

at this point all we're getting for a "song of the summer" is "nothing beats a jet2 holiday," right?

new to me: "technological threat," an oscar-nominated 5-min animated short from 1988, that combines traditional 2D animation with some 3D modeling in a stylish neo-luddist allegory www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiTg...

if we were to determine that the numbers just don't pencil for fans paying for streaming, it wouldn't be a historical anomaly. it's never been how things worked. that doesn't absolve spotify β€” if anything, i think it makes their position worse
