I know some people literally don't have a desk space, monitors, keyboard, mouse, etc. which makes it harder to switch, but wanted to ask in case a donated old PC (newer than that laptop) or something might be of use.

Is there any chance you could make a desktop setup work most of the time, with like an older model iPad or lower-power laptop for couch/bed/travel?

Only all-day use laptops I've seen that don't eventually overheat are, unfortunately, MacBook Air/Pro. Partner has several for work.

There's really not a whole lot you can do to keep an actively-cooled laptop working well for more than a few years at a time, I've had too many friends and family jump through a crazy amount of hoops like this before giving up. Did you ever replace the fan module itself?
