“What’s he appealing for?”
“I dunno, but the ump seems to agree with him…”

A seemingly disinterested Cowdrey at slip and ‘keeper Parks look on as, Brian Statham’s polite inquiry against Tiger Lance gets him his 250th Test wicket at The Oval in 1965. He got 5-40

A gentle man.

Cutest cricket image ever?

As policemen try to hold back spectators after India's historic win against England at The Oval in 1971, a youngster carrying a magazine (perhaps for an autograph) tries to squeeze his way between the legs of the law.

So hope he succeeded.

"Is that you under the sweaters, David?"
"Who did you think it was, David!?"

David Gower and umpire David Constant share a laugh as they dash off the pitch following a sudden downpour at Trent Bridge in 1986. Grinning broadly in the backdrop is New Zealand allrounder Evan Gray

Allan Border looks on in irritated admiration as an impeccably balanced Sunil Gavaskar immaculately turns one to off during the 1985-86 WSC.

Exporting America’s Immigration Problem The Trump administration has asked Panama to take in hundreds of people who cannot easily be sent back to their home countries.

Since President Trump took office, his plan to deport millions of undocumented people has kept running into barriers, forcing the White House to come up with ever more creative, and controversial, tactics.

Some migrants are being held in a hotel in Panama. Here's why.

In 1930.
If you were a cricketer, you walked to the ground.
Carrying your own kit
All dressed prim and proper.
No matter who you were, how many runs you had scored or wickets you had taken.
No matter even if you were called

"So that is how it is done..."

The most appropriate picture to post on the day when Chappelli called it quits from writing cricket. Ian Chappell watches Richie Benaud write in the Channel 9 studio in 1991. To think once cricket had players and commentators like these.

John to Geoff,
Quick as lightning,
Cool as Snow.

John Snow, hair flying, lets loose a sharp one, and an immaculate-as-ever Geoffrey Boycott is perfectly poised to receive even as Mike Denness watches. England vs The Rest, New Road, 1974.
Epic snap by Patrick Eagar (who else?)

There are some who believe that only modern pace bowlers sent stumps flying.
There are those who have actually followed cricket.
And seen the likes of John Snow.
Bails and a stump go flying, as Rodney Marsh is cleaned up John Snow at Leeds, 1975. Knott is suitably impressed.

"What about a single to third man, Beefy?"
"What about a six to the third row, Lubo?"

Ian Botham and David Gower in an intense exchange during the World Cup match against Sri Lanka at Taunton in 1983. Our David did not feel it was cold enough to warrant a sweater...

"All right, let's all think..."

Skipper Graham Gooch looks ahead, debutant Jack Russell bends, and Allan Lamb squats and John Emburey gets all Rodin, as England play Sri Lanka at Lord's in 1988.

(It was Jack Russel's Test debut and he got a lovely 90-odd!)

"Fast bowlers' club? What fast bowlers' club?!!"

Both teams agreed not to 'bounce' certain tail-enders, but Rodney Hogg was never one to pay much attention to that, as Bob Willis painfully finds out at Melbourne, 1978. Miller, Maclean, Hughes, Border and Yallop look on.

-David Steele to Rod Marsh, after being teased about his glasses and prematurely silver hair.
The Bank Clerk then went to War, against Lillee and Co, making the summer of 1976 a Steele-y one.

What do you do when you play your last match, after having played more matches than anyone else?
You go out and save your team one last time.
And then stand with your successors at the end of it all, sipping a Coke and wondering what the fuss is about.

Do teams even play ODIs anymore? There’s World Cup years, and then there’s the rest. Even with a Champions Trophy coming up, no one seems keen to play 50 overs.

Hampshire 'keeper Bob Stephenson redefines optimism by appealing for a run out against Kent's diving Asif Iqbal, as spectators seated on deckchairs and even on the ground watch at Southampton in 1973.

Of course he smiled!

We have a bunch of idiot commentators (I am sorry but no other word comes to mind) braying about how being part of winning teams is all that matters. It doesn’t. In any team sport, you cannot control how much your teammates perform. Vinoo Mankad and Brian Lara are not failures!

Ponting’s remark about Kallis is a reflection of the new generation of commentators - everything from bowling to batting, gets melted down to figures. Mind you, Kallis was phenomenal, but to say he is unquestionably the greatest cricketer of all time is daft.
