I think it’s a meadow brown. No expert though! Lovely picture!

A half-curled up hedgehog being held for the camera before being released into a hedgehog house in the garden.

This little boy was found outside our house by someone in March. He was sluggish and didn’t seem well. After months of care at a hedgehog rescue, we were asked if he could be released into our garden. He came out of the hedgie house last night, ate loads and wandered off to his old haunts!

First harvest! A friend gave me the plant and I put it in a sunny spot in the front garden. I think they’re called ‘tigerella’. Very tasty!

Stunningly beautiful and peaceful Two Medicine Lake in Glacier National Park. The mountains that embrace the lake and the cloudless sky are reflected in the deep stillness of the alpine body of water. The multicolored stones that make up the lake bed can be seen in the shallows at the bottom of the picture.

I bought this gorgeous rose with a gift voucher I received on my last working day. It looks as splendid as retirement feels!

We’ve always had blackbird fledglings in our garden, but over the last two years we’ve had almost none. I read somewhere there’s a mosquito-borne virus that is affecting blackbirds, but I’m hoping it’s just that they’ve been put off our garden by the magpies that seem to have moved in here too!

I would very roughly estimate that our humble five acres of woods, meadows and garden produces and supports many thousands of butterflies for the surrounding neighborhoods. Also bees. Let’s hope they aren’t using pesticides.

A young house sparrow sitting in a large plastic box with some hay, water and food.

Just found this sparrow on the ground in the garden, only able to fly about 1 foot above the ground. It’s now in the darkened dining room, in a large box filled with hay, and has food and water. No obvious injuries. Hoping it might just be stunned and will be stronger by morning! 🤞🏻
