One of my favorite regular volunteers told me, "Coming here is good for my mental health. I was getting anxious being alone so much. It's good for me to be around young people." I'm really happy some folks are getting the "mutual" in "mutual aid".

On 6/14 I went straight from a protest to the Pride festival to table for OV Mutual Aid. We didn't have a sign for our tent, so I painted one on a torn-up tablecloth I had in my bag. Next morning, ankle-deep in mud, I was hanging that same banner for flood relief. Still hard to wrap my head around.

If there was a guy who was this honest and kind and humble and yet also this firm and pragmatic and diplomatic and wise and also knew this much about every single culture in all the worlds the government would govern and cared this much about all the marginalized people

For example, (vague spoilers?) a single character is given near absolute authority to craft a new world government from scratch and instead of being icked I'm just like... why not

I'm about halfway through and enjoying it so far. It does that thing that fantasy can do of making me think about things differently without feeling as defensive about it as I might if it was presented as talking place in our world

One of my favorite writers stopped updating their Temeraire and Star Trek WIPs in order to write fanfic about Victoria Goddard's Nine Worlds universe and instead of getting mad about it I decided to check out "The Hands of the Emperor"

My brain hurts

I love learning new things by trying to simulate them. When I made my version Game of Life, I decided to add a "color" trait for cells that's "inherited" from new cells from their neighbors. I wondered what it would be like to do something more "realistic" - now I'm relearning how meiosis works!

Please note that all the garden plots are public so random strangers can join your game. I may make private rooms at some point, but for now I'll just take down the app if randos find it and start being jerks.
