08.08.2025 16:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0And thatβs where I think it is comparable to our minds. Itβs not the totality of what our minds do, but I do think our neurons are being shaped by stimulus into a complex nth-dimensioned kaleidoscope-like device that ultimately then can receive information and transform it into our perceptions.
08.08.2025 16:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I hate arguing w / people about LLMs, itβs such a shitty feeling, but I think the autocorrect metaphor has ultimately misled people. Yes, thatβs what it came out of, but it isnβt just chaining words together. Itβs more like a kaleidoscope. Light passes through & is transformed in multiple dimensions

08.08.2025 16:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It is easy for me to imagine myself trying to count the Bs quickly and getting it wrong but then noticing and fixing it all in one eyeblink. So fast that Iβd never even think to wonder or worry about why it was two thoughts instead of one to get it right. LLMs only thought once, now they think twice
08.08.2025 16:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0IIUC itβs basically impossible to tell why a model gets a specific thing wrong, even to researchers. But they have figured out ways to solve this problem, and theyβre a lot like what a human mind would do to error correct, which is weird

Via @brianstelter.bsky.social: The Financial Times recently dubbed it "the great crime paradox:" Violent crime rates are falling, both in the US and the UK, "but a growing share of people think levels are rising."

But nationally, crime is receding..." https://www.semafor.com/newsletter/02/04/2024/dcs-dark-bubble-and-what-happened-to-pitchfork
Itβs interesting β last year Stelter linked to this Ben Smith Semaphore post asking if this misperception / misbelief (βtrue and groundedβ) was a product of crime spiking in proximity to power centers. Seems that wasnβt the explanation

Our corporations have no such feature, so I'm pretty skeptical theirs did either

Led by rabbis, they of them moved to the front of Trump Tower, read the names of Palestinian children killed, and said Kaddish.
The NYPD is currently arresting dozens of them.
It's good that Democrats are using tools that are normal in the history of liberal democracy in the US -- gerrymandering, denying quorum -- but casting them as some radical defensive move is silly and probably unstrategic. Save Mamdani, Democrats have yet to significantly innovate in the Trump era.

Is he expecting other countries to force their citizens to Buy American? Or does he just think that gap will close itself automagically?

Rebecca Hersher β’ August 04, 2025 05:30 AM EDT
Screenshot of text: βIt is unclear why the Trump administration seeks to end the missions. The equipment in space is state of the art and is expected to function for many more years, according to scientists who worked on the missions. An official review by NASA in 2023 found that "the data are of exceptionally high quality" and recommended continuing the mission for at least three years. Both missions, known as the Orbiting Carbon Observatories, measure carbon dioxide and plant growth around the globe. They use identical measurement devices, but one device is attached to a stand-alone satellite while the other is attached to the International Space Station. The standalone satellite would burn up in the atmosphere if NASA pursued plans to terminate the mission.β
