i think what we're ultimately looking at is a conditioning of the consumer by the games media industry - reviews written as if the video game in question is nothing more than a product to be graded has given us (the readers/viewers) the understanding that games are nothing more than toys.

i see we're once again in the season of "The Game Awards are actually bad! Geoff sucks!" right before those same folks fly out for 3 days of partying at this boring ass event.

maybe i played a different game, but Ball X Pit is not deep. i WISHED this was the game that forced me to rely on smart strategy, clever experimentation, and careful planning, but more often than not i just chose the AOE attack, pushed the joystick to the right, and sat back. just needs a bit more!

are these types of games repetitive, shallow, and easy? i think you could argue that to be true - but the article just kind of states it, does zero digging in, and moves on to the next offense.

while i think reviews written by folks who aren't super keen on a specific genre or maybe unfamiliar with a series is often good (unique perspective, overlooked criticism, etc) i think the thing that makes this review especially offensive is that its not very well written?

damn, well said - and i'm right there with you. i don't necessarily need to see like, a celebration of previous titles but if this game can identify and elevate the elements of those games, i'm all in baby.

what is something you are really looking forward to with this title? are you hoping it challenges the series in anyway?
