To my mind, #doctorwho took a massive step backwards for S23. Our look at Mindwarp below, where I also wax lyrical about the brilliance of Sil’s first outing, too. There’s a lot crammed into this one!

A story whose promise is let down by a succession of poor choices in its realisation and execution, is where I ended up landing in this, our take on the Season 21 opener Warriors of the Deep. Commence ignition Scibus!

Getting into the nitty gritty with this story which has much to commend it but doesn’t quite live up to its potential

Lovely to catch up with Amy Manford for this week’s In Conversation. A successful soprano, actress AND producer (and ex-gymnast and pole vaulter! 😱), she has loads of talent plus ‘get up and go’ - and the drive to make sure the fireworks happen no matter what! 🎧 bit.ly/InCon175s

4. It assumes rapid stimulation creates engagement. But for me it just means I don’t care as much about what’s happening on screen. A bit more breathing space and a lot less music would be a great way to improve these edits.

3. It’s a rapid blur of ‘stuff happening’ with little or no time to actually enjoy what’s going on, or become interested in the characters and properly engaged in the plot line. Without the space to allow your mind to wander into the ‘what if’s’, the magic of the show gets lost…

2. There is a place for these shorter, punchier edits, and the colourisation is a delight to see, but the obsession with trying to ‘modernize’ it needs to be dialed back. But above all they make me realise why a chunk of the modern series is lost on me.

🧵 1. Watched the 90min colorised War Games. Was interesting to see a condensed edit even if I don’t think a lot of it worked. It’s edited like a long trailer rather than a tv movie. The ubiquitous presence of loud music is overwhelming and detracts…
