OTD in LA transportation history:

1999: the first Automated Passenger Counter (APC) is installed on 60 LA Metro buses. The APCs work in conjunction with GPS software to pinpoint the location of each stop and count the number of boardings.

1912: The Los Angeles & San Fernando Valley Electric Railway Company is sold to Pacific Electric. Pacific Electric operated passenger rail from Los Angeles to the San Fernando Valley until December 28, 1952, when streetcar service was retired and ultimately replaced by a system of buses (MTA)...
