Goddamn. What a sobering and poignant piece of conceptual art. What an amazing artist.

All of the penicillin in use worldwide comes from a strain of mold that was growing on a cantaloupe bought at a grocery store in Peoria, Illinois in 1942.

Look, I like wasps, ok? They're fighty little bastards and I like their snazzy outfits, pest-control abilities, skill with paper, and total lack of compromise

If you're using AI to write essays, eulogies, a text to your wife, I do think less of you as a person. Ceding your mental and creative abilities to a machine is an embarrassing thing and people should be ashamed to admit doing it in public.

Needless to say, we're still a bit bewildered by the success of the campaign; we spent the last two weeks in the studio, and we're getting close to landing this thing.

Thank you for making our dreams come true.

We hadn't seen some of these in many years; posters tend to get pretty beaten up on tours, or lost in the shuffle. But Mark O, bless him, had kept a few of them in one piece, and he signed 'em too. (So did I).

Dear Friends -

For the final week of the crowdfunding campaign for The New World, we've added a few more perks courtesy of our pal Mark Ohe, who sent us a care package of tour posters from our Matador and Sub Pop days.

The most depressing AI pieces are always going to be the thoughtful, nuanced, open-minded considerations by respected writers who are transparently responding to the publicity incentive created by editors whose owners want this kind of content

Today would be a great day to donate (set up a continuing donation?) to your local PBS or NPR station. If you want to donate to mine, it’s WNET, but the little stations will need you more.

I have no idea what this will mean for my work (at WNET) in the coming days. It’s truly frightening what is happening across the board.

Public Broadcasters Brace for Vote on Sharp Funding Cut

This week will be pivotal for the future of PBS and NPR, as the Senate plans to vote on ~$1.1 billion in funding.

I spoke to station directors in South Dakota and Alaska about what this could mean:

Sometimes when I think about my school projects, I realize they were all a little too ambitious, too creative, and too weird for a kid growing up in the NJ suburbs. My teachers were probably all like - there’s that really quiet asian girl doing her thing again…

In 8th grade, I did a presentation about satanism in which I made the class go into the hall while I draped a “blood” splattered sheet over this, while it played a police video describing a satanic ritual. I surrounded the tv with a ring of candles, & turned off the lights, invited the class back in

Bc my bf moved to the Poconos, I spend about 1/3 of my time there (the rest in NYC), & it's grown on me, mostly bc of the ability to be in the woods (& not the Dollar Generals). If you mainly do antique shops, ice cream stands, & hikes... you almost feel what it must've been like in some better time

Please consider us gob-smacked, and deeply grateful.

Thanks for more-than-exceeding our first day expectations for our new album’s crowdfunding campaign! There are still many days to go and great perks, but we wanted to express our gratitude after a banner day.

Friends,

Four years ago, we launched a crowdfunding campaign for a new Shearwater album—and you helped us create, promote & distribute an LP we loved, without the support of a label.

We’re doing that again now, for our nearly-complete new album The New World.

Haha, That's JM's pitched prequil to my prequil. He would like a dinosaur-only movie with no humans in it that ends with a mosquito in amber.

Mine is like a space race / espionage film between two companies.

Why hasn’t anyone made a Jurassic Park prequel yet? I think there’s way more meat in that movie than in continuous sequels.
