In the patent, they mention that this is building on top of Beatmania (not by name, but they do describe keys and a turntable) which does have the judgement bar at the bottom. How early in the development process this was drafted, I can’t say, but they must have considered this style at some point.

I like how in the DDR patent they saw the need to fill in the empty space with someone doing a sick dance move that is really impractical during normal gameplay

i keep telling others to create for creation's sake but i can never seem to take my own advice

I hope I'll have some time this weekend to go tagging each of these. It's a large effort for one person (that's going to be 255 folders each with 4-8 individual difficulties to tag, plus playtesting) so it will definitely not be finished in that time.

I figured out the whole thing with "era"- it was the funky way they'd decided to combine (nostalmix) with (step mix). The way the "completeMIX2 another" charts existed was a bit unusual to integrate as well. But it's all done and all there.
