What if the iPhone Air is an investment in pushing the iPhone down market?

Like in the iPad line, the Air could come down in price over time to occupy the spot of the current iPhone, which then pushes the iPhone down to the "e" line.

I know, unlikely, but maybe?

American In 1995, at the beginning of the last week of August, on the afternoon of an inhumanly hot and intolerably humid day, I arrived at Newark Airport to live in the United States. I was twenty two years old and about to start as a graduate student at Princeton. I have been here more or less the whole time since. I spent six years on an F-1 Visa while getting my PhD. After that, I lived and worked in Tucson for seven years. My conception of what counts as an inhumanly hot day changed. During that time I was on an H1-B Visa sponsored by my employer, the University of Arizona. Subsequently, I was granted Permanent Residencyβ€”a Green Cardβ€”through marriage. In 2009 I moved to North Carolina. My conception of what counts as an intolerably humid day changed. I am an immigrant to this country. I have made my life here. My two children are Americans. And now, as of yesterday, so am I.

What a beautiful article. kieranhealy.org/blog/archives...

"That built in to the heart of the United States is the republican ideal not just that anyone can become an American, but that this possibility is what makes the country what it is."

Unfortunately, I don't think this is so incredibly broken such that they'll be forced to change path.

I'll get used to it, but it's the one area of the new design system that feels like an unequivocal mistake.

I can probably get over this last one, but it also confuses the primary controls on the window.

Are these controlling the window or the sidebar?

But then if it's not floating on top of anything, the effect is incredibly weird and ugly.

The answer to "what is it floating on top of," most often, is nothing.

After all, if there were something there, the user would never be able to access it in most contexts (content scrolls vertically, not horizontally, about 99% of the time).

Apple's framework has this as an option.

The worst is that the sidebar is often confused about what it's supposed to be floating on top of.

This is the *Finder*... what is happening!?

But beyond that, it's just awkward beyond belief.

First, all the margin required by floating it creates a lot of wasted space.

If that were the worst of it, whatever.

17.06.2025 14:57 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The entire concept is wrong from the start: the sidebar is secondary, supporting content.

Bringing it to the foreground flips that in ways that are at best distracting and, at worst, confusing.

I'm down with Liquid Glass.

Sure, it needs a lot of tweaking, but it's mostly fine. And it's just an incredible amount of fun.

BUT the sidebar is a train wreck.

Melissa and her husband were killed. It’s difficult to overstate her centrality to the MN DFL. Former Speaker of the House, current Rep, and a recruiter of our best and brightest.

It’s an unimaginable loss.

I’m hoping Hoffman and his wife come out of surgery okay.

Quick reactions after installing iPadOS 26: liquid glass is mostly fun but needs to be dialed in; windowing really is a game-changer; but the added complexity is a lot and makes it feel closer to macOS than iOS (not a bad thing depending on your needs!); and the beta is buggy
