12.12.2025 00:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Folks! We did it! The Onion has 60,000 subscribers!
We're that much closer to reaching our goal of beating The Washington Post's print circulation by the end of next year. (They were last reported at 97k, but it's probably lower now.)
Thank you all. Democracy died in darkness but we're still here.

11.12.2025 22:33 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So in order to encourage creativity, I told my genetics students they needed to have more than a standard PowerPoint for their final project
Which is how we ended up with a presentation on tardigrade genetics delivered entirely in rhyming couplets
I'm holding up the novel Crafting for Sinners by Jenny Kiefer. The center of the cover features an embroidery of praying hands with threads hanging down from the wrists (it's a real piece of embroidery art created by a friend of the author), and the title is written in red all-caps that look handwritten & a bit hectic, arched around the praying hands. Jenny Kiefer's name is in the same font but blue, across the bottom of the cover. In the background, an Xmas tree w/multicolored lights.
Went on an absolute tear in the library & emerged with five books. I'm about to settle in with Mr. Moo, a bit of Malbec, and Jenny Kiefer's Crafting for Sinners...

Starting over is not scary. It's rather exciting, actually.
It's not being able to go back to familiar routines and places that's scary.
But a reset requires letting go of progress once made.
You'll build it again, don't worry.
Mr. Moo, a lorge tuxedo cat, is crouched down in blankets & a quilt on the couch, hunting the elusive Hoodie Sweatshirt String. Only his big green eyes & alert ears show above the edge of the pink & pale blue quilt.

11.12.2025 01:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0My typical Kroger cart is up over 10% from 2024. That's only because the things they think we're watching, like eggs, bread, and milk have been slightly down or stable. Many other things we need are over 20%-25% higher AND smaller. Any analysis has to take shrinkflation into account!
10.12.2025 23:19 β π 48 π 7 π¬ 3 π 1An explanation of how to say this horrible little vowel that is so stunningly beautifulβincluding that it doesnβt have an equivalent sound in any western european languageβdonβt worry about reading it because a video with an example of this sound is coming
But what makes this sound so hard to make? It literally doesnβt exist in any other western european language. When I have been coached on Russian, I was told that this one vowel is THE dead giveaway that youβre not a native speaker if you donβt get it right.

Daily totals for 4 days include 50-75mm per DAY between Mon to Fri.
Like, seriously β HOPEFULLY this changes, but if this doesnβt, this is alarming β thereβs potential for over 200mm of rain in 4 days next week.
And this is for Victoria, not Vancouver. Vancouver is even worse.
Making sure all tour drains remain clear, etc, is important for the next 2 weeks. #yyj
1/ It was the height of the pandemic, but Phoebe Putney Memorial had good news: At 99 years old, Maude Burke was the oldest COVID-19 patient they were discharging.
