HURFOM field researchers have confirmed that the military junta has sealed off the monastery and property of Ashin Sanda Zaoti, a well-known monk from Zay Kyo Ward in Mawlamyine, after arresting him for publicly criticising the junta’s mountain excavation project on Taung Wine Mountain.

Airstrikes continue to pose a concern. In HURFOM areas, such incidents are recurring & causing immense fear.

The situation along the Thai-Myanmar border became highly tense on the morning of 8 October 2025 when junta aircraft carried out a heavy bombing campaign over Thit Khee village, located opposite the Phu Nam Ron permanent checkpoint in Muang District, Kanchanaburi Province.

HURFOM confirmed an appalling case of sexual violence by the junta in Myeik District, where a woman was repeatedly raped after being arrested.

More than 300 displaced villagers, many of them children, are suffering from skin diseases and urgently need medicine in Laung Lon Township, Dawei District, Tanintharyi.

The outbreak began around June 2024 among internally displaced persons who fled their homes. It has since spread widely.

In Ye Township, Mon State, the military junta has once again resorted to brutal tactics, abducting six local men & forcing them to serve as human shields during their ongoing operations.

Beginning on September 25, nearly 300 junta soldiers divided into three columns and launched a series of raids.

On September 23, junta troops from LIB No. 545 launched artillery strikes targeting Koh Dae Sai and Koh Wah Boe villages in Kyon Paing village tract, Kyon Doe Township, Kawkareik District, Karen State. The shelling left seven villagers injured and badly damaged the Buddhist monastery in Koh Dae Sai.

Almost 1,000 people from Yebyu Township, Dawei District, remain displaced and in urgent need of humanitarian support after junta forces burned down homes and forced villagers to flee again. The crisis began on Aug. 27 when clashes broke out between 100 junta troops & local resistance fighters.
