Love the natural world and think we should stop wrecking it. Forest activist. Enjoy words and the clever things people do with them. I hurt for the people of Palestine. Happy to look my age as long as I don't have to act it.

Friday essay: The dangers of centrism in a time of crisis The science says we need to rush on climate change, but centrists like our PM are still telling us it’s not yet time to stop building new gas or coal mines.

In the fight against slavery abolitionists eventually prevailed over slave owners. The fight wasnt won in the sensible centre but by β€˜extremists’ who risked everything to save the lives of others. It scares me to think how the ABC would cover such a debate today. theconversation.com/friday-essay...

Oh, Canada – don’t make the same wildfire mistakes as Australia A sobering fact is that prescribed burning is not the panacea it’s been made out to be

"For instance, medical data quite clearly show that Australians are far more likely to die from respiratory problems linked with prescribed burning than they are to die in a wildfire."

Inventor of leaf blower: what if we replaced rakes with something noisier, more expensive, actually takes longer, uses gas, requires maintenance, and is hard on worker's backs? Lose-lose times seven!?!?! Genius!

Does the cultural establishment recognise a cultural event when they see one? or would they rather censor the Harbour Bridge march?

"When authorities cited 'safety concerns' to justify shutting down a peaceful demonstration, they were not responding to actual physical danger but to the political danger posed by successful collective action."

Highly relevant to the enthusiastic if unscientific planned burning of native forest conducted by the Australian govt in the name of bushfire prevention.

It’s alleged that First Nations man Mr Robert Barnes been kept in solitary confinement in SA’s Yatala Labour Prison for 800 days. (The UN prohibits solitary for more than 15). Cultural support has been denied. His well being is on the line. Time for an Inquiry that gives us some answers Premier.

3 July 2025
The Australian Government is backing major renewable energy projects, creating thousands of jobs and injecting billions into the local economy while supporting the path to net zero.

Minister for Industry and Innovation and Minister for Science Tim Ayres announced Major Project Status has been granted to two nationally significant large-scale developments.

The Northern Silica Project, located North of Cairns, will annually produce 3 to 5 million tonnes of silica sand over 25 years, supporting 120 construction jobsβ€―andβ€―90 ongoing roles. The high-purity silica sand mining project will supply essential materials for domestic manufacturing of solar panels, silicon wafers and high-end electronics.

The Bonaparte Carbon Capture and Storage Project, located offshore northwest of Darwin, will support emissions reductions in hard-to-abate sectors such as metal and chemical refining. The project will potentially enable the development of low-carbon industries in the region, creating 370 construction jobsβ€―andβ€―40 ongoing positions

The spirit of the Coalition lives on in the Labor Government. Giving cash to a carbon capture and storage project co-owned by INPEX, Woodside and TotalEnergies & calling it a RENEWABLE ENERGY VENTURE. Angus Taylor would be so proud. πŸ₯²

Australia criminalises courage. Richard Boyle exposed ATO abuse & faces prison. David McBride told the truth on war crimes & is in prison. That's not justice - it's a warning to stay silent. On World Whistleblowers Day, we call for laws that protect, not prosecute, truth-tellers.

Australia news live: Greens demand Labor reveal whether Pine Gap used in Iran strikes; former Wong adviser labels attacks a β€˜flagrant breach’ of international law Follow live

Today reveals the dangers of the 'two party system'.

Both govt and opposition:
- support US use of Pine Gap and other bases on our soil, which may make us a target
- refuse to come clean with the Australian people.

Both Labor & LNP threaten our security. #auspol

I love lichens! They're a mini holobiont of fungus, algae and cyanobacteria working together to thrive as a symbiotic whole, nutrient cycling nitrogen from the atmosphere to soils, breaking down rocks and dead wood to enrich soil and offering a food source to an abundance of animals. #nature

Burn that toppled estimated 400yo tingle tree killed 'hundreds more' The felling of what is estimated to be hundreds of tingle trees in a burn last December has sparked fresh calls for a review of prescribed burning in WA.

Meanwhile, in a Melbourne office, a phone rings.

DEECA: Hello?
DBCA: It's me. Look,we're getting bad press for a planned burn destroying hundreds of rare trees. Any advice?
DEECA: Stick to the plan! Ignore them. If that doesn't work, call it a success.

New research shows native forest logging industry going up in smoke New research published in the leading international journal Nature Communications has added to the growing evidence that native forest logging in Australia is exacerbating wildfire risks.

Australia’s logging industry is fuelling the flames. New research shows logged native forests are 4x more likely to burn than plantations β€” and stay fire-prone for decades. This isn’t forestry. It’s arson with a delay fuse. #Bushfires #Logging #AusPol #Forests #ClimateCrisis

If it looks like a duck; walks like a duck; quacks like a duck. but it's not logging? if it's logged by a logger; loaded by a log loader; sorted at a log yard then delivered 2 a logging mill. Ya'd reckon it's logging. Nah. People are getting pretty sick of being gaslit.
