A Journalist's Guide to Reporting on Mass Shootings Here is what journalists should consider — and avoid — when covering mass shootings and the aftermath of tragedies.

Many news outlets have stopped unnecessarily repeating shooters’ names to avoid glorifying them and their violent attacks. I think this could apply here, also.

The image is split in half vertically. On the left, a black background is scattered with hundreds of small galaxies of different shapes, ranging in color from white to yellow to red. Some galaxies, mostly the redder galaxies, are distorted, appearing to be stretched out or mirror imaged. Just a little bit above the center, there is a bright source of light, a star, with 8 bright diffraction spikes extending out from it. A portion of the larger image is zoomed-in on the right, showing a particularly long, red, thin line that stretches from 1 o’clock to 7 o’clock. There are several bright dots, some thicker than others, along this line, with one labeled as Earendel.

#NASAWebb was built to see the early universe. Earendel, the most distant star Webb has seen, is thought to exist about 1 billion years after the big bang. The most distant galaxy Webb has seen is even farther, around 300 million years after the big bang: bit.ly/40ZyR4L 🔭 🧪

A few things that seemed impossible until Brits (and partners) succeeded:

Vaccines
World Wide Web
Defeating Nazis
Industrial revolution
Abolishing slavery

Britain's most defining, visionary moments = adapting to global events and thriving in face of adversity

Impossible has never stopped us.

Kemi Badenoch to describe UK's 2050 net zero target as "impossible":… Climate Barometer’s YouGov poll from October 2024 shows that 65% of British adults support the net zero target, compared to 22% who oppose it.

𝗜𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟱𝟬?

UK has ALREADY made world-leading progress

2024:

📉 emissions fell to just 371m tonnes of carbon dioxide equiv, the lowest level since 1872

📈 UK’s net zero economy grew 10% and generated £83.1bn in Gross Value Added
