Photo of Dr. Nelson Mandela. “No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love.”
Today on #MandelaDay we honour the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela.
It is a day to take time to reflect on Mandela's values and principles and commit to making a positive impact in our own communities.

On 10th May 1994 Nelson Mandela was sworn in as President of South Africa, and could take on the fresh and enormous challenge of starting to build the new society for which he and so many others had struggled and suffered over many decades. We salute his memory and his inspiration for us all.

On 11 Feb 1990, Nelson Mandela walked out of prison, after 27 years. He had only narrowly avoided a death sentence but had been ready to accept this. To overturn apartheid South Africa many were prepared to give everything. This courage inspired ACTSA to be formed soon after Mandela became President

On 8th January 1912 the South African Native National Congress was founded to work for the rights of black South Africans. In 1923 it became the African National Congress. It was the main liberation movement in South Africa until the first free election in 1994, which made Nelson Mandela President.
