One group to listen to - actuaries. Mostly apolitical with one objective only, accurate underwriting of insurance so profits stay up.

Results for first 8 months of 2024, over a baseline of expected Covid deaths (ie, this is higher that baseline)

Technological Remedies for Social Problems: Defining and Demarcating Techno-Fixes and Techno-Solutionism - Science and Engineering Ethics Can technology resolve social problems by reducing them to engineering challenges? In the 1960s, Alvin Weinberg answered yes, popularizing the term โ€œtechno-fixโ€ in the process. The concept was immedia...

Kudos to @henriksaetre.bsky.social & @evanselinger.bsky.social for a brilliant paper on techno-solutionism. As no one else is counting we could give it a bash. I'm from the March 2022 cohort (Sydney, AUS). I take 10 prescribed and 9 OTC meds/supplements. I pace like a pro, live a very small life, and work reduced hours/duties mostly from home.

Graph of norovirus cases from 2012 to present day.
The peaks come in Spring, the troughs come in Autumn.
The side before Covid peaks at about 200-300.

The side after Covid peaks 400-450.

And this year hasn't necessarily peaked yet.

But what could have caused a change in patterns like this?

An ultra-early, transient interferon-associated innate immune response associates with protection from SARS-CoV-2 infection despite exposure Our interferon-associated signature of early SARS-CoV-2 infection characterises a subgroup of exposed, uninfected contacts in three independent cohorts who may have successfully aborted infection prior to induction of adaptive immunity. The earlier transient upregulation of signature genes in PCR-negative compared to PCR-positive CHIM volunteers suggests that ultra-early interferon-associated innate immune responses correlate with, and may contribute to, protection against SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Why do some people, despite SARS-CoV-2 exposure, not develop an infection?

Washing your hands is important.

But COVID gathers in under ventilated spaces like smoke.

It's high time we in public health were honest with the public and admit we got it wrong.

There was far too much emphasis placed on handwashing for Covid.

Many died because of this incorrect guidance.
