It also sends the wrong message; no longer does the US wish to welcome the tired, poor, huddled masses yearning to feel free. Instead, freedom is for the wealthy, and the poors can starve.

What Trump is proposing with his β€œgold card” is to allow any wealthy foreigner to gain citizenship for a $5 million fee. This is a huge gap in our homeland security system, easily abused by adversaries.

For those unfamiliar, the US has a β€œcut to the front of the line” program already for foreign investors called β€œEB-5.” This allows a wealthy foreign investor to get a visa to live in the US if they invest just over $1m here. This is for a visa, not for citizenship.

The administration must correct this egregious oversight and allow the Forest Service to hire summer wildland firefighters before fire crews, forests, and communities are in peril. #wildfire #federalworker

I spent three summers w/ the US Forest Service on a wildland fire crew in Paisley, Oregon, Fremont-Winema NF. Knowing my brothers & sisters in wildland fire are at-risk of not having full crews this summer due to a blanket hiring freeze is maddening and reprehensible.

This is what the government did with 120K+ Japanese Americans in 1942.

I know. I was there in those camps.

Make it hurt, PM Trudeau and Presidente Sheinbaum. Appeasement didn’t work for Chamberlain, and it will not work for you. Only when Trump realizes you will not cave in that he will see he’s not a β€œstrong” man, but a paper tiger. #tariffs

I’d much rather pay a graduated income tax than force poor folks to pay even more because they cannot afford to live in a Seattle condo and walk to their place of work. #transportation #taxes

A better solution would be an income tax. I know, Washingtonians loathe the idea, but rich folks can work from home or live closer to their offices because they can afford it. The school teacher, food service worker, firefighter, etc in Seattle may not be able to make ends meet.

Who drives furthest? Folks in rural areas, those without access to reliable transit, and/or those that work jobs outside of regular hours. Often, these folks get paid the least, and/or live in far flung places because that’s the only affordable housing option they could find.

WA State has a $1 billion budget hole in its transportation budget, potentially leaving projects unfinished for years in order to delay costs and close the gap. Sadly, proposals to close the gap include taxing folks that drive furthest. While this makes sense on its face, it has inequitable impacts.

Of course, there are always going to be exceptions to any rule. The use of cliffs to drive game animals over them cannot be employed any longer, for example. We simply don’t have the space and likely not the resource to perform the activity. And there’s a recreational vs subsistence perspective too.

It is totally appropriate to manage harvest to ensure viable populations. We have more people today following European colonization, thus a greater impact on the environment. However, banning traditional harvest methods deemed β€œunethical” because you don’t support harvest in any form is wrong.

Or, just when white folks do it? If it’s the latter, then what they’re actually saying is that white people and their ethics are β€œsuperior” to Indigenous peoples’ ethics.

27.01.2025 17:54 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

…including hunting and fishing. When they imply a hunting practice is unethical, they’re saying all hunters who employ said practice are unethical. So, Indigenous peoples who employ those practices are unethical?

Wildlife for All is pretending to care about the environment, when in reality they’re opposed to hunting and fishing harvest. So, what makes their views those of a white supremacist? People have been on this landscape for tens of thousands of years interacting with the environment…

I got frustrated over the weekend after seeing an extremist group posting their white supremacist bullshit to Instagram, & got myself blocked 4 calling them white supremacists. The group? Wildlife for All. Bet u thought it was gonna be Elon or Don Jr (they’re white supremacists too). Let me explain:

A Republican I respect posted recently that Nancy Pelosi ripping up Trump’s speech a few years back was a β€œdisgrace.” What actions in response to Elon’s salute would be a β€œdisgrace” now? Are we to just stand back and stand by while actual fascists take over our democracy?

If Alaska’s Senate delegation wishes to change the name back to Denali - and make it permanent - they will pass a bill to prevent future presidents from changing it on a whim. Sadly, I don’t believe Murkowski/Sullivan actually care, and thus will not seek to overturn the executive order. #denali

Denali is and will always be Denali. The new administration can change its official designation, but to true patriots it will always carry the Athabascan name for this sacred place. #denali

My crew mates could dig line, swing a Pulaski, run saw, and take big β€˜ol dips of chew with the best, because they were the best of us. I’m honored to have served with them, and would do so again in a heartbeat. #LAfires

I spent 3 summers firefighting with the US Forest Service (best job I ever had), and several members of my crew were part of the LGBTQ community. Republicans calling these folks β€œDEI hires” know nothing of tangible service, nor the risks these folks took to protect communities. #LAfires

Goose pastrami is delicious! Would be happy to see this replicated in my own city, and then to convert this wild protein to feed families in-need!

Climate change, land use, and elected officials working to sell our lands to the highest bidder. 2025 will require much vigilance and a stiff backbone if these cherished landscapes are to be available to my children and grandchildren. #conservation #outdoors #hunting #fishing #wildfood

2024 was a great year afield and abroad: Mexico & Italy; the Oregon Coast x2; Washington’s public lands around the coast, Olympics, Hood Canal, and Blue Mountains. So very fortunate to enjoy the outdoors and to feed family and friends with wild game. These places are under threat -

While others take ownership of their impact. But no one has zero impact. That’s not to say we give up and ignore our impacts and responsibilities. Rather, it’s to leave the idea of moral superiority by the wayside and recognize means for us all to do better.
