This. When I hit 30 I thought, I'm going to die one day and I will have not tried to write and I've always wanted to be a writer. So I made a choice then that I would take time from other things, sacrifice, to work on writing. It's been years and I'm not where I want to be yet.

30.01.2026 15:54 — 👍 18 🔁 3 💬 2 📌 0Yep. And you've gotta DO IT. Commit, lean into it. Make it the best darn (metaphorical or otherwise) bagpipe break you can possibly manage.
Don't wonder if you can or should. Wonder how anyone can even begin to stop you (they can't).

20.01.2026 20:13 — 👍 53 🔁 39 💬 1 📌 0anywho. all to say, breaks from marathon projects are good and necessary. i feel my creative energy replenishing and like i’ll be able to return to my novel with full sails full in march!
18.01.2026 19:33 — 👍 5 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0i’ve also been wanting to read more plays! i read Is God Is by Aleshea Harris and…wow. i have an idea for a play and would love to take a stab at writing it and learning the format after my next novel draft
18.01.2026 19:30 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0(this is stream of consciousness, off the cuff, and riddled with typos, i’m sure. i was reading on my couch and felt overwhelmed with the need to say…all of this. lol)
18.01.2026 18:27 — 👍 5 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0im resolved to be less outcome oriented in 2026. there is too much out of our control. goals oriented around the business side of writing are not fertile grounds for art making.
but i want to grow so i can do my vision for my manuscript justice. whatever it takes, however much time it takes
i’ve been pushing myself to be brave and write short stories that make me shiver (i drafted one this week and wrote “ugh” so many times in the margin. i told a friend the premise over the phone and she groaned, but then encouraged me to keep writing it)
18.01.2026 18:14 — 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0i‘ve recently read Meander, Spiral, Explode and Spring, Summer, Asteroid, Bird. i’ve been reading short stories that sit on the fence of genre and literary. i’m taking an acting class now because i want to understand how to *physically embody* a character, how to write more natural dialogue, etc
18.01.2026 18:11 — 👍 7 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0i’m taking a break from my novel until march so i can just read, read, read, experiment, play, dig into craft, step out of my comfort zone zone when it comes into genre and format as much as possible
