โThe city isnโt quite at Copenhagen or Amsterdam levels, but itโs closing in. Over 40 percent of locals commute by bike โ about ten times the rate of a typical North American city โ and you feel it immediately.โ Via @momentummag.bsky.social
Antwerp has come a long way since I worked there in 2019.
That's a *lot* of words to say 'baseball fast; business fast.'
Also, "...in both baseball and business, hard-hit balls produce disproportionate results" is *exactly* the kind of thing a generative AI chatbot would spit out if tortured for a baseball-business metaphor.
Competitive rocket fuel! ๐ค
I'd also hypothesize (haven't seen it studied) that the crowd-sourced warnings about "speed traps" (e.g. Waze) demonstrate that info about potential enforcement slows drivers. Which is another support for automated speed enforcement, with signage. We know that works, at least close to the cameras.
30.10.2025 02:34 โ ๐ 33 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 0Not very hot take (?): "Speed traps" are tacit acknowledgement by law enforcement and the public that road design encourages higher speeds.
That's why these law enforcement actions are usually done at certain locations, not randomly.

Struck IN A CROSSWALK.
One more reminder of the need for safer (slower) speeds on most non-arterial streets (and plenty of arterials, as well).
This video is a chilling reminder of what one aspect of street-violence looks like, particularly with a deadly weapon.
People and public spaces must be protected from this kind of deliberate lethal entitlement from drivers that have a disregard for pedestrian well-being and human life. #visionzero
It's a great interview, by @sgoodyear.bsky.social with Tim Gill about his book "Urban Playground: How child-friendly planning and design can save cities".
