I hope not. I think at this point the enduring mystery is a big part of what makes it so fascinating.

That said, audiences need to accept they play a much bigger part in this than they like to believe. Want to see more original films in the mainstream? Then get off your ass and see them in the theaters when they happen!! This ain’t fucking rocket science!

It’s true that adaptations and remakes have been a big part of cinema since the medium’s inception, but I think anybody trying to act like we aren’t in one of the biggest droughts of original storytelling the medium has ever known is being more than a little unserious.

At the end of the day that’s what it really is, we just want more variety, more of a chance for new stuff to be made and potentially hit amidst all of the business-as-usual adaptations.

Shout out to Marc Maron for going scorched earth on the current rot in stand-up comedy, and an even bigger shout out to Jen Kirkman for being able to say “I told you so” as gracefully as possible after having been seven or eight years ahead of the curve on all of this.
