fave part of the new #superman movie: when the Daily Planet editor (played by Bunk from The Wire who has not aged a day since) skims a draft of the reporter's story, which he's quickly typed up despite Lois's crazy maneuvering of Mister Terrific's T-craft

I spend a lot of time contemplating what's happening politically and trying to interpret/make sense of it. But I also take time off for pleasure. And then come back to the work. We're all in the fog of civil war, and it behooves us to go to whatever gives us back the clearer, bigger vision.

may this suffering awaken compassion.

what i like about tonglen is that it so fully breaks from our impulse to get rid of our suffering. instead, from the heart of our suffering and experience of powerlessness, we remember others and realize we can still do something, for them and for ourselves.

today i breathe in the suffering of all those who are unfree, incarcerated, hospitalized. i breathe out liberation: may all beings be free, may all beings be at peace.

i bring 3 things with me to the cafe where we sit 6 times a day: two laminated fotos of my children and a notecard w assertions to counter ocd thoughts. they end w/a reminder to practice tonglen, a meditation where you breathe in the suffering of those who suffer similarly, breathe out relief.

i've been in eating rehab the past 3 weeks, will likely be here another few weeks. progress is slow but real. today had the thought, for anyone else who needs it: just because it sucks/is hard doesn't mean I'm not making progress.
